Dear Hillcrest Parents,
Welcome back! I hope everyone has had a wonderful summer. We are ready to begin another great school year at Hillcrest! I wanted to take some time and explain briefly what will be going on with our continuing PBIS program this year. Just a reminder that PBIS stands for (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports). We will be starting the 2014-2015 school year off with a school wide “Bee Camp.” During the “Bee Camp” every class will go through a lesson/training on what positive behavior looks like in different locations in the building such as the hallway, cafeteria, playground, and on the busses. The lessons will focus on being responsible, respectful, and safe. At the conclusion of Bee Camp on Friday, we will have a school-wide assembly and students will receive a badge that represents that they have graduated from “Bee Camp.”
Throughout the school year we will be celebrating quarterly successes in regards to PBIS with school wide special events. Many students will be recognized quarterly for their ability to be respectful, responsible, and safe on a regular basis. We will also be celebrating students who have had perfect attendance and high levels of academic growth. Our theme for this school year for PBIS celebrations will have a country western theme.
This year we will continue to have the Bee Store open during lunch time. Students will receive Bee Bucks when they are following specifically defined behaviors and meeting school wide expectations. See the attached matrix to get a better understanding of the behaviors that are expected at Hillcrest School.
Communication between school and home is extremely important. The teachers at Hillcrest would like to remind you to check your child’s planner nighty. This can be a very useful resource for communication. This year we will be sending communication home from the office on Wednesdays in a labeled folder. Make sure you take a look and send the folder back with your child on Thursday.
