Principals Message

Dear Hillcrest Parents,

It is with excitement I am writing you this letter of introduction and great excitement to have an opportunity to serve your students as Principal at Hillcrest School.

I grew up in East Moline and attended Meadowland Elementary (now Ridgewood). I moved up the grades to Ridgewood, Hoffman in 6th grade, Glenview in 7th and 8th and finally to United Township. At the beginning of my junior year my family relocated to San Antonio, Texas. There I completed my junior and senior year in a large high school on the “east side” called East Central High School. Interestingly our mascot was the HORNETS!

After high school I entered the Unites States Air Force and was able to do a lot of traveling around the world. Once I completed my tour I returned back to the Quad Cities, found a job in the casino industry and worked my way through college. Once I completed my two years at Black Hawk I transferred to Marycrest in Davenport where I earned a B.S. in Biology and minor in Education.

After completing my student teaching at John Deere Middle School in Moline I was hired to teach Science and Health at North Scott Middle School in Eldridge, IA. A couple years later a teaching position in Colona opened. It was much closer to home and provided better opportunities for our family. During my first few years at Colona I continued my education through Western Illinois University in the Educational Administration program, and after completing a year-long internship at Colona I was offered their vacant Principal position. Colona is a Pre-K – 8th building and offered me a myriad of opportunities to get as much experience in as many areas as possible. After five years of service at Colona my career took me to Orion High School where I have been the principal for the previous for years.

I have always hoped an opportunity would arise where I could continue to work in the career I greatly enjoy, in the community I call home. My wife, also a U.T. graduate is also a teacher in the East Moline district and has been for many years. We have two children who have gone through Bowlesburg Elementary and are now at Glenview. We are grateful for the opportunities and education this district has provided our children, and we are grateful to have the opportunity to now both serve as educators in East Moline.

I look forward to working with you and your children not only this school year, but many more to come.

Sincerely,

Ron Harris
Principal, Hillcrest Elementary School

PTA News

The PTA is collecting boxtops, Swiss Valley milk caps, and Campbell’s soup labels. If you send any of these items in with your student, the school makes money! The class with the most contributions wins a pizza party.

Note: Make sure the boxtops are not expired, and preclip them, please. Also: Make sure the soup label is clipped with the UPC on the back of the label.
